Art. 20 Forest management principles

1 The forest shall be managed in such a way that it can fulfil its functions without interruption or restriction (sustainability).

2 The cantons shall enact planning and management regulations; in doing this, they shall take into account the requirements of wood supply, near-natural silviculture and the protection of nature and cultural heritage.

3 Should the state of the forest and forest conservation allow it, the maintenance and use of the forest may be dispensed with entirely or in part for ecological and landscape reasons.

4 The cantons may delimit suitable areas as forest reserves for the conservation of the species diversity of flora and fauna.

5 Where required by the protective function of the forest, the cantons ensure a minimum level of maintenance.

Art. 20 Principi della gestione

1 La foresta va gestita in modo che possa adempiere le proprie funzioni durevolmente e senza restrizioni (continuità23).

2 I Cantoni emanano le necessarie prescrizioni di pianificazione e di gestione. Al riguardo tengono conto delle esigenze dell’approvvigionamento di legname, di una selvicoltura naturalistica24 e della protezione della natura e del paesaggio.

3 Se lo stato e la conservazione della foresta lo permettono, segnatamente per ragioni di natura ecologica e paesistica si può desistere interamente o in parte dalla manutenzione e dallo sfruttamento.

4 Per garantire la conservazione della molteplicità delle specie animali e vegetali, i Cantoni possono circoscrivere riserve forestali di ampiezza adeguata.

5 Se il mantenimento della funzione protettiva lo esige, i Cantoni devono garantire un minimo di cure.
