SEM shall within the scope of its duties and responsibilities assess whether foreign nationals pose a threat to Switzerland’s internal or external security or international relations. When issuing police alerts, it shall notify fedpol. If necessary, the cantonal authorities concerned may also be notified.

Le SEM examine, dans le cadre de ses tâches et compétences, si un étranger représente un danger pour la sûreté intérieure ou extérieure ou pour les relations internationales de la Suisse. Lors de signalements relevant du domaine policier, fedpol est informé. Si nécessaire, les autorités cantonales concernées sont également informées.
